Catchment Sensitive Farming (CSF) is a project run by Natural England in partnership with the Environment Agency and The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

It raises awareness of diffuse water pollution from agriculture (DWPA) by giving free training and advice to farmers in selected areas in England. The selected areas are called priority catchments. The aim of the advice is to improve the environmental performance of farms.

CFE helps farming businesses, by signposting to best practice in soil management, crop nutrition and pesticide use.  It helps farmers support the natural environment, whilst farming productively.

CFE gives farmers the opportunity to demonstrate their ‘green credentials’ to the rest of the industry and the general public.  It is a partnership approach, supported by organisations engaged in agriculture and the environment and voluntary industry-led initiatives (Greenhouse Gas Action Plan, Tried & Tested and The Voluntary Initiative), demonstrating how the industry takes responsibility for addressing environmental issues alongside profitable farming.

The VI is an industry-led programme established in 2001 that promotes responsible pesticide use.

Key elements of the VI are the National Register of Sprayer Operators (NRoSO), the National Sprayer Testing Scheme (NSTS) and the Integrated Pest Management Plan (IPMP) replacing the Crop Protection Management Plan (CPMP)

catchmentmanagement

Essex & Suffolk Water′s catchment management work aims to prevent deterioration and then improve the quality of water in the rivers and lakes that they abstract from for drinking water supply. Preventing deterioration in water quality helps to ensure that the quantity of water available for abstraction is maintained.
